1. Antioxidation:

   AKG can directly react with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) in a non-enzymatic oxidative decarboxylation reaction to produce succinic acid, water and carbon dioxide, reducing the accumulation of free radicals.

2. Delaying aging:
